ABOUT THIS MEDICATION
What the medication is used for:
Thyroid™ is a hormone preparation made of desiccated thyroid. It is used primarily for
specific replacement therapy for decreased or absent thyroid function. Hypothyroid symptoms include: lack of energy, weight gain, hair loss and dry and thick skin. Thyroid hormone also helps in case of goiter.
What it does:
Thyroid™ is made of desiccated thyroid and acts mainly by increasing T4 levels. Thyroid hormone affects the growth, development and metabolism of virtually all tissues.
When it should not be used:
Do not use Thyroid™, if you have uncorrected adrenal insufficiency or untreated thyrotoxicosis. If you have any hypersensitivity to any of the active or extraneous constituents do not use Thyroid™ (although true allergic reaction to thyroid hormones has not been clearly documented by literature).
What the medicinal ingredient is:
Thyroid™ contains mainly T4 hormones. It also contains T3 and other components from desiccated thyroid.
What the important non medicinal ingredient are:
Thyroid™ also contains cornstarch, magnesium stearate, sugar and talc.
What dosage forms it comes in:
Thyroid™ comes into 3 dosage form: 30mg, 60mg and 125 mg.
WARNING AND PRECAUTIONS
If you have angina pectoris, hypertension, other cardiac conditions please inform your physician before taking Thyroid™. If you suffer from diabetes mellitus or insipidus or adrenal cortical insufficiency please inform your physician before taking Thyroid™ as dosage adjustment might be required. If you take oral anticoagulant, the prothrombin time should be measured frequently to determine if the dosage of oral anticoagulants is to be readjusted. In infants, excessive doses of thyroid hormone preparations may produce craniosynostosis.

INTERACTION WITH THIS MEDICATION
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medications, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins or herbal products.
PROPER USE OF THIS MEDICATION
Usual dose: The dosage of thyroid hormones is determined by the indication and must in every case be individualized according to your response and laboratory findings. The effects of daily thyroid reach a therapeutic maximum usually in 4 to 6 weeks.
Initial dose for myxedema is usually 30 to 180 mg daily; other hypothyroid states, 60 to 300 mg daily. Usual maintenance dose is 30 to 125 mg daily.
How should I take this medicine?
Take Thyroid hormone tablets by mouth 30—60 minutes before a meal (on an empty stomach) with a full glass of water. The doses should be taken at regular intervals as indicated on the medication label. Do not take your medication more often than directed.
SIDE EFFECTS AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT THEM
Contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are severe or bothersome. Your pharmacist may be able to advise you on managing side effects.
- Intolerance to the medication
- nervousness, tremors, headache, insomnia
- palpitation, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris
- diarrhea, abdominal cramps
- sweating, heat intolerance, fever, important weight loss
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS, HOW OFTEN THEY HAPPEN AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT THEM
Please inform your doctor in case of difficulty breathing, wheezing, or shortness of breath, chest pain, excessive sweating or intolerance to heat, fast or irregular heartbeat or pulse rate, nervousness, skin rash or hives or swelling of ankles, feet or legs.

HOW TO STORE IT
Store at controlled room temperature (15 - 30oC). Keep out of humidity.
