That's good news for many woman having menopause. Calcium supplementation for people taking long-term thyroid medication has not yet been proven to be either helpful or necessary. Simultaneous ingestion of some calcium formulations with levothyroxine has been reported to reduce the effectiveness of levothyroxine. Therefore, do not take any supplements containing Calcium before talking to your physician. Iron deficiency has been reported to impair the body’s ability to make its own thyroid hormones therefore increasing the need for thyroid medication. Iron supplements may decrease absorption of thyroid hormone medications therefore again don't take any medication before talking to your doctor. People taking thyroid medication should not consume soya products within three hours of taking their medication because soya reduce the absorption of thyroid supplements. Research has shown that taking drugs that inhibit the production of stomach acid reduces the absorption of thyroid hormones. Therefore, any medication influencing the acidity of the stomach should be reviewed by your physician. People having thyroid disease can live a healthy life and are encourage to consult there physicians in case any new symptoms appears.
